Recreation Therapy

We are now offering Recreation Therapy in our Encino office, on location and in-home! The overall goal is to help each client develop skills, enhance their quality of life, and foster social connections, ultimately promoting independence and a sense of fulfillment.

What is Recreation Therapy?

Recreation therapy is a form of treatment that uses recreational activities to improve the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive well-being of individuals. It is utilized by all ages and populations, from adolescents to seniors, as well as with people who have disabilities, chronic illnesses, or mental health issues. Recreation therapy involves a variety of activities, such as sports, games, specialty arts, crafts, music, and outdoor activities, tailored to each person’s needs and interests. Leilani is our Recreation Therapist (CTRS) at Sharon Arbel, Ph.D & Associates, has years of experience in the field, working with various populations (adolescents, young adults, adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, seniors)  in a multitude of settings. We facilitate various art and music recreation therapy groups that integrate socialization, in addition to one-on-one sessions that include customized activities based on individual goals.

What Makes a Good Recreation Therapist?

A compassionate and caring person who listens to what their client needs and implements evidence-based strategies that are in line with their goals. Like all of our therapists here at the practice, we are here for you, to help you grow and reclaim your independence and happiness in the most efficient way possible.

Here at Sharon Arbel, Ph.D & Associates, our recreation therapy practice emphasizes the importance of a balanced leisure lifestyle that includes physical, cognitive, emotional and social wellbeing. Therapeutic recreation is based on evidence-based practices that are implemented by the certified therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS).

After discussing goals with each client individually, the therapist then uses evidence based modalities to create a program specific to the needs of individuals or groups.

We are here to help: our recreation therapy program aims to enhance clients’ quality of life through enjoyable and meaningful activities. To learn more, reach out and schedule a call with our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist. We’re looking forward to supporting you on your journey!
